In July 1942 a Dallas County Branch Library was opened in Seagoville. It was sponsored by the Seagoville Lions Club and housed in Ramsey’s Insurance office. At that time the library owned 85 books with an additional 287 County supplied books. The library served a population of fifteen hundred and provided service six days per week. The library moved to its current location in 1975.
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) designates a service population to each library. In 2018, the TSLAC designated a library service population of 15, 519. Current estimates are 16,719 residents in the library’s service population.
The library currently owns over 28, 000 print volumes, more than 14,000 digital volumes and in Fiscal Year 2019 circulated more than 35,000 items.
